NMN for Atherosclerosis: What the Evidence Actually Shows
What is Atherosclerosis?
Atherosclerosis is the build-up of plaque in arteries, narrowing blood flow and triggering heart attacks and strokes. It is driven by cholesterol, hypertension, smoking, diabetes and ageing.
NMN relevance: the published evidence
NAD+ supports endothelial nitric oxide signalling in animal studies, and NMN has reversed vascular dysfunction in aged mice. There is no human atherosclerosis trial of NMN with imaging or event endpoints. Statins, blood-pressure control and smoking cessation remain first-line.
Questions to ask before supplementing
No dose validated for atherosclerosis.
Contraindications and red flags
Do not delay statin or antiplatelet therapy.
Bottom line for Malaysian patients
NMN is not registered with NPRA as a treatment for any specific condition; it is sold as a general health supplement. If you have atherosclerosis, use this page as a question list for a registered medical practitioner before adding NMN to existing therapy. Read our safety guide for full red-flag context.
